The Shreveport Choice Neighborhood Initiative provides numerous work-related opportunities for local residents, businesses, and contractors. This initiative seeks to increase public awareness and participation throughout this multi-year initiative, connecting low-income individuals or small and disadvantaged businesses with employment, contracting, training, or other economic opportunities.

Section 3

Section 3 is a provision of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Act of 1968 that helps foster local economic development, neighborhood economic improvement and individual self-sufficiency. HUD’s Section 3 Program requires recipients of the agency’s financial assistance to make a concerted effort to hire and contract with Section 3-eligible individuals and business concerns with a focus on qualifications, cost, and insurance/bonding requirements as priority considerations when selecting employees and contractors.

Fair Share

The Fair Share program is a local initiative dedicated to “leveling the economic playing field” for small and disadvantaged businesses. The City’s FairShare Office manages a directory of Fair Share Certified Contractors (FSCs) and provides other supportive services for contracting opportunities. The Shreveport Choice Neighborhood Initiative is committed to maximizing participation of small minority and women-owned businesses in all contracting opportunities.
